 Wellington is renown as the Arts Capital of New Zealand. It is the home of Te Papa - Museum of New Zealand, Opera New Zealand, the New Zealand Ballet Company, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and dozens of art galleries. There are several live professional theatre companies in Wellington performing plays to an international standard. The Jewel in the Crown is the New Zealand Festival of the Arts held in Wellington every second year during February and March. Almost half a million people experience the festival directly and hundreds and thousands more are reach through media coverage. Over 2,000 artists from 22 countries perform 316 separate events at 31 different venues.
 Wellington's new state of the art WestpacTrust Stadium not only attracts capacity crowds to sporting events but recently held the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and a Robbie Williams concert, both attracting full houses. |
